A&G MOULDING ACQUIRES LETTER MOULDING OPERATION

A&G Moulding has acquired Aston Designs’ sign component moulding business in an agreement that sees Hull-based A&G Moulding expand its letter pressing capacity and Aston Designs re-focus on its core activities - sign consultancy, fabrication, and specialised large format digital graphics work.

Specialising in vacuum forming, A&G Moulding has been looking to increase its press forming business, says Geoff Oliver, director and general manager at A&G Moulding. He said, “We have been talking to Aston Designs for a number of months with a view to acquiring both its press forming and vacuum forming trade - this agreement increases our press forming capacity and adds to our existing strength in vacuum forming and fabrication.”

The acquisition doubles A&G Moulding’s letter production as well as adding to its large panel pressing capability. A&G Moulding supplies the signage industry with bespoke letters, roundels and panels for projects ranging from one-off panels for malls to volume high street and supermarket refits. A&G Moulding produces deep drawn letters, large area mouldings, distortion printed mouldings, vinyl applications and can decorate materials before or after the moulding process.

Aston Design’s press forming business portfolio, which includes high profile work for motor and high street retail projects, will transfer to A&G Moulding.

Howard Griffiths, managing director of Aston Design’s, explained the decision, “This is a good move for Aston Design as it allows us to concentrate on our core business activities – consultancy, large format digital graphics and fabrication – whilst ensuring that customers of our press forming and vacuum forming operation have continuity of service from a company that has a good track record of supplying the industry.”

A&G Moulding is the sign industry and general moulding arm of the Thompson Plastics Group, a £45 million turnover plastics engineering group with bases around the UK, including Hull and Manchester.

Richard Clynes, managing director of Thompson Plastics, said, “This is an excellent opportunity for A&G Moulding and Thompson Plastics to strengthen our commitment to the sign industry and grow our business in this sector.”

The acquisition and transfer of the business took place at the beginning of March. Jobs at Aston Designs are not affected.
